About Dr. Oliver

Dr. Kim Oliver is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is the Co-founder/Director of the Westport Center for Mindfulness & Psychotherapy. She is licensed to practice social work in the states of Connecticut, New York and Florida.

Dr. Oliver has over 20 years of experience as a therapist.  Her training includes undergraduate and graduate degrees from Adelphi University, a Doctorate in Clinical Social Work from New York University and Postgraduate Training in Marital and Family Therapy.  Dr. Oliver also completed a certification in Mindfulness and Psychotherapy from The Institute for Meditation & Psychotherapy, is certified in Reiki (a technique used to reduce stress and promote relaxation and healing), and has trained to teach yoga to children.

DSC_1801For the past 12 years she has served as an Adjunct Professor of Social Work in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Fairfield University and has participated in a public service campaign for the Partnership for a Drug Free America. This campaign was part of the Partnership’s “Time To Talk” campaign, which helped educate parents about how to speak comfortably with their children about drugs and alcohol.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5fSugZbfT4

Dr. Oliver has extensive clinical, managerial and supervisory experience in private practice, psychiatric, school and community counseling settings, including The Family and Children’s Agency (FCA) in Norwalk, CT. As FCA’s Manager of Maternal Outreach & Mentoring Services and Manager of the First Steps Program, Dr. Oliver served as a member of an inter-agency committee that brought the Healthy Families Program Initiative to the City of Norwalk through its advocacy in the Connecticut General Assembly.  She facilitated the implementation of the First Steps and Healthy Families Programs before leaving FCA to teach and devote herself to fulltime private practice.

Dr. Oliver also served as Coordinator of the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program at Hallbrook Psychiatric Hospital in Westport, CT.

Her approach is eclectic, encompassing mindfulness informed therapies; as well as psychodynamic, solution and strengths focused therapy. She has taken part in daily contemplative practice since childhood and practices yoga, guided imagery and vipassana meditation. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and is the mother of three grown daughters.
